THE UNDERNEATH EXPOSED

portrait and editorial photography
stories that get beneath the surface

My Left Eyeball

I am right handed but I became ambidextrous at a young age playing soccer, other multi-limbed sports and then the jazz drum set where you have a stick in each hand, the right foot on the bass drum and the left foot on the hi-hat. Funnily enough I shoot with my left eye. I love to put that left eye into the viewfinder and wait for the decisive moment to appear. I would not say that putting a frame around particular moments is an obsession, I would say that the frame is an extension of the mind. Everything we see, think and process is an interpretation and translation from the brain...the camera is like a hand that feels, touches and frames before the mind even interprets.

My name is Rodolfo Mari, I live in Connecticut and travel all over to help clients tell their story and to uncover the personality, identities and essence of people, places and things. I love the challenge of helping portrait subjects to be at ease so their true persona comes to the surface.
